AI job scoring ranks every opening in your search by how well it fits you — before you spend an hour applying. PursuitRoom scores each posting on five preference dimensions (title, scope, compensation, industry, location) and adds a separate resume-fit score, then shows a one-line reason for each. Instead of a raw feed sorted by date, you open a shortlist sorted by fit. This page shows what the scores mean, how they're built, and what the output actually looks like.
The problem it solves
Job boards rank by relevance and recency, not by whether a role is right for you. So the highest posting isn't the best fit — it's just the newest or the best keyword match. You end up re-reading every JD to remember why you saved it and applying to whatever you saw last. Scoring replaces that guesswork with an explainable ranking you can trust and tune.
How AI job scoring works
- Sourcing. PursuitRoom pulls openings from across the major job boards and company career pages, then dedupes them into one list.
- Preference scoring. Each role is rated 1–5 on five dimensions — title, scope, compensation, industry, location — against the targets you set once in Settings.
- Resume-fit scoring. Separately, your uploaded resume is matched to the posting's must-haves for a resume-fit score with strengths and gaps — so "does it fit my goals?" and "does my experience match?" stay distinct questions.
- Reasons you can see. Every dimension carries a short, plain-English reason ("comp range top is above your floor"; "title is one step up"). No black box.
- Your weights. On Pro you can adjust how much each dimension counts, so the ranking reflects what you care about most.
Example output
For a target of Senior Product Manager, $170K floor, remote/Austin, B2B software, a sourced role might score:
| Dimension | Score | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Title | 4 | "Group PM — one step up from your target" |
| Scope | 5 | "Owns a 3-PM pod" |
| Compensation | 4 | "Range $165K–$195K; top well above your floor" |
| Industry | 4 | "Fintech — adjacent to your SaaS background" |
| Location | 5 | "Hybrid Austin matches" |
| Preference score | 4.4 | Top of your list |
| Resume fit | 3 | "Strong PM signal; light on fintech regulation — tailor to your closest analog" |
You learn in seconds that the role is worth pursuing and exactly what to address when you apply.
Privacy & control
Scoring runs on the targets and resume you provide, and you stay in control: nothing is auto-applied on your behalf, your resume is stored privately and used only to score and tailor, and you can adjust your targets or weights any time. You can also exclude named employers, so your current company never surfaces in your pipeline.

- On Pro+, generate a tailored resume and cover letter — but only once a role clears your bar.
